Ice Box Rolls

 
 

 

 
 

1 qt milk
1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 yeast cakes
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon B. P. [baking powder]
1 teaspoon soda
3 cups flour.

Scald milk
add shortening and yeast which has been soaked in 1/2 cup luke warm water
add dry ingredients
let raise,
add more flour & knead
Put in ice box.

When needed roll out or Pinch off small amounts.

Put in Pan to raise

bake in hot oven.

 

Sometimes Aunt Pit didn't tell us the exact oven temperatures. Here's a cheat sheet.
Cool oven 250°F
Slow oven 250–350°F
Moderate oven 350–375°F
Hot oven 375–450°F
